BIOGRAPHY OF WODE MAYA, THE YOUTUBE MADE MILLIONAIRE FROM GHANA

Berthold Winkler, also known by his birth name Kwabena Ackon, was born and raised with his parents in Ahenkofi, Ghana. Despite being better known as Wode Maya, he also goes by the moniker Mr. Ghana Baby due to his outstanding vlogging abilities.  The young social media influencer's family is not well-off. Wode Maya worked odd jobs as a child to support his family. The Ghanaian vlogger is nevertheless proud of his family.

Wode Maya, today, is a famous YouTube personality, vlogger, and aeronautical engineer. The Ghanaian gained fame when he began making videos about life in China. His visual content went viral across the world, earning a high viewership on the YouTube channel.  Wode Maya's channel is ranked as one of the best in Ghana.

Wode Maya first joined YouTube on the 10th of January, 2013. The Vlogger soon gained an international audience and attention with his high-content videos about his life experience in China. Also, he visits several African countries vlogging about the country's social scene, culture, and travel experience.

EDUCATION

After completing his secondary school education, Maya left Ghana in 2012 to further his education in China. Initially, he was billed to study in the UK after getting a scholarship. However, this would not come to reality as he was denied a visa to the UK. Out of shame, the young man left for China. He was admitted into Shenyang Aerospace University to study Aeronautical Engineering.

While in China, Maya started his YouTube channel known as mrghanababy. There, he posted videos about his experience in the country. Over the years, his channel grew in popularity, attracting over 1,000,000 subscribers and millions of views. He has collaborated with other top YouTubers from Africa and also helped small content creators gain exposure.

YOUTUBE JOURNEY

In an interview with face2faceafrica, Wode Maya disclosed his worst moment of anti-Black discrimination was when he set out looking for a job and was denied just because he was Black. The derogatory comments coupled with incidents of discrimination against him in public buses and trains compelled him to start a YouTube channel to share his experiences as a Black man living in China.

Having left China with a loan from friends to pursue his passions, Wode Maya first traveled to about five African countries sharing his travel experiences and each country’s culture.  And today, his YouTube channel Wode Maya, which started off as a bridge between Africa and Asia, has grown to be the welcome train to the African diaspora, he says on his website. He has traveled to many countries in Africa to feature different kinds of companies and people and has himself been featured by many top YouTubers all around the continent.

RELATIONSHIP

Wode Maya and Miss Trudy confirmed they were dating in a YouTube interview with African Tigress in 2019. Miss Trudy is a popular YouTuber from Kenya. Following her meeting with Wode Maya, both of them have been enjoying a great time together as they ended up as traveling partners, touring the African continent. Wode Maya and Miss Trudy tied the knot in September 2022.

Wode Maya’s net worth is estimated to be in the range of $3 million.
